The Naim ethos has always centred around uncompromising sound quality. It's entirely possible to build a high quality power supply into a product, in order to create a more cost and space-efficient piece of equipment, but this is always a compromise.

Removing the power supply from a device and having a dedicated, separate PSU enables more care to be taken with circuit board layouts - minimising interference and crosstalk between signal and power lines - and keeps the electromagnetic field generated by the large toroidal transformer away from the sensitive audio circuitry. This also enables us to devote more space and similar care and attention to mapping out a more efficient, higher quality and lower noise power supply in a chassis of its own.

The result is a drastically lowered noise floor, improved dynamics, musicality and cohesiveness within the music. Truly, though, the improvements offered by an external power supply cannot be accurately described, only realised through a demonstration by your Naim Dealership.

Here we have our flagship streamer, the ND 555, next to its dedicated power supply, the NAPS 555 DR. In cases like this, the streamer has been designed entirely without an internal power supply, allowing both units to deliver the best performance possible in their own right, and as a sum of their parts.

Other products in our ranges also allow for the use of their internal power supply, or the addition of an external PS upgrade - a prime example of this is the New Classic 300 Series' NAC 332 preamplifier and NPX 300 power supply.
