Naim Audio always recommends that our products are connected via wired Ethernet connections wherever possible but we do also understand that users like to have the convenience of using a wireless connection sometimes and have provided wireless networking capabilities on our streaming clients. It should be understood that there is no way to guarantee coverage and performance of wireless networking within an environment and if a user is unable to obtain wireless network coverage in an area then they may be tempted to install a wireless network extender in their property to provide additional coverage. In this case it should be noted that using a wireless extender will degrade the overall throughput of the customers wireless network as the extender has to receive buffer and then retransmit any and all data that is being sent on the wireless network; no matter where that data is destined. Customers may also be tempted to use devices which allow Ethernet data to sent via their home mains power wiring these are known as Ethernet over power devices. (They may also be generically referred to as or Homeplugs) While these units provide a an alternative solution to running a physical network cable they do also inject their signal onto the mains wiring and can degrade the sound quality of any hifi components connected to the mains. Also their performance can be negatively impacted by any other devices (such as switch-mode power supplies as found with most current electronic kit or whitegoods with electrically noisy motors) and so again we cannot guarantee that these devices will provide a stable enough connection.
